This old House (Hausu)

from The Pod Charles Cinecast · host The Prince Charles Cinema

On this Post-Halloween Spooky Bonus Edition of The Pod Charles Cinecast, hosts Jonathan Foster & Fil Freitas follow a cat to a countryside house, where an older lady lives. All seems well until the woman is revealed to be a ghost-witch or a witch-ghost and her old house intends to devour our fearless hosts...We, of course, are talking the 1977 Japanese fantasy haunted house horror flick HOUSE aka HAUSU, directed by Nobuhiko Obayashi. The story, very much Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs meets Sailor Moon, follows seven schoolgirls who travel to the home of one of the girl's aunts while on school holiday. Once there, they one-by-one go missing, as the house begins to literally eat them.  Join us, as we break down this completely bananas (someone actually gets turned into a pile of bananas), fun house of a movie. We talk how it was conceived, some of the stories behind it getting made, and we break down one of our favourite soundtracks in a long time. It's completely bonkers, but the good kind of bonkers, and it is all thanks to patreon backer Will Dunn, who once again became a Good Bagel Boss and requested us to cover it. Thanks, Will!If you'd like your own special request episode, become a Good Bagel Boss on Patreon, for one month only, and pop us a message with the film you'd like us to cover!
