Thomas Dolby Retrospectacle + Venus Hum New Music (Part 1)

from Permanent Record Podcast

Episode 113:  Thomas Dolby Retrospectacle + Venus Hum New Music (Part 1) Brian and Sarah are thrilled to welcome back two very special guests to the show: Andrew Dineley, of Soft Octopus Design Studio (who created the gorgeous graphic above) and the Art On Your Sleeve podcast; and Tony Miracle of the band Venus Hum. Brian and Sarah asked these two fine gentlemen for help, because they wanted to talk about the work of Thomas Dolby, but being very new fans, they knew they couldn't do it on their own. Andrew and Tony, however, are long-time fans with a wealth of knowledge and personal stories between them, and they both graciously agreed to join in the discussion. The result is a fun and detailed conversation which covers the five main albums Thomas Dolby has released since 1982. This episode covers the first three albums: The Golden Age of Wireless, The Flat Earth, and Aliens Ate My Buick. The four hosts cover the usual topics of release and chart information, singles, videos, remixes, and artwork. They also talk about the wealth of musical guests Thomas Dolby had on each album. And they even talk about aerobics! But wait, there's more! With Tony Miracle joining them, Brian and Sarah can't help but take the opportunity to ask him about the new music Venus Hum has been releasing over the past few months. In this episode, Tony is quizzed about the songs "Where You Are" and "Whether or Not." It should be pretty clear by now that there are many good reasons to listen to this episode!
