Those Who Cannot Repay You Luke 14:1-14

Send us Fan MailAgain this Sunday we encounter Jesus on a Sabbath, with Pharisees (a sect of religious leaders who were very strict about following the law) and we're presented with a person in need of healing. Jesus asks if it is lawful to heal on the Sabbath, qualifies the ask further and then heals a man of dropsy (edema/swelling). The man leaves healed and Jesus offers 2 lessons: (1) A parable about a wedding banquet and sitting in a humble place instead of a place of honour and, (2) A call to breakdown social barriers and to welcome those beyond our comfort zone and usual social group. To serve those who cannot repay you is an act of kindness that reflects the heart of God and will be rewarded in heaven.
