When we were kids what we needed was to be lifted up, loved, supported and empowered. A lot of us missed out on this and instead we didnt get that, so we ended up not feeling secure, confident and good enough. This then leads us to being needy, people pleasing, seeking external validation and trying to fit in with the world. That then also leads to settling for shit relationships which are unhealthy and manipulating because we dont have the self worth and confidence to speak our truth and feel good enough on our own, so we would rather stay in a shit relationship than be alone.
