Those Who Love, Obey

from Bible Highlights · host Cleandro Viana

Those Who Love, Obey“If you love Me, keep My commandments.” – John 14:15. True love for Christ isn’t just a beautiful feeling—it’s a living force that moves us to obey. When Jesus spoke these words, He wasn’t setting up a cold, legal contract. He was revealing that love is the fuel for genuine obedience.Love builds trust. And trust leads to obedience. Love creates a bridge between the heart and the will. That’s why obedience based only on fear or pressure is missing something essential. It might hold us back from doing wrong for a time, but it’s love that keeps us faithful for life. Even when our feelings seem weak, we’re still called to obey—not as robots, but as children who know the Father is trustworthy.Jesus didn’t come to cancel the commandments God gave in the past. He confirmed them, deepened their meaning, and revealed their true spirit. Commandments like “do not kill” or “do not commit adultery” are more than strict rules—they reflect the character of a God who is just and loving. Through His life and teachings, Christ showed that these commands go far beyond outward actions; they reach our thoughts, motives, and intentions. He also gave a new commandment: “Love one another as I have loved you.” This doesn’t replace the old ones—it shines a light on them. Love brings the commandments to life. It makes them real, relevant, and beautiful. We don’t obey to be saved; we obey because we have been saved. Obedience is a natural response from a heart transformed by grace. So today, choose to obey—not out of fear, not for appearance, but out of love. Cultivate that love. Feed it through prayer, the Word, and fellowship. And even on days when love feels faint, obey anyway. Because those who love, obey.
