from AM Live on SAfm · host SABC News and Current Affairs

SAfm — Thousands of taxi commuters are without transport this morning, following a total shutdown by the SA National Taxi Council - SANTACO. This is in protest against the Covid-19 relief package as announced by Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula on Friday. Mbalula says government has allocated more than one-billion rand to the taxi industry to mitigate the devastating economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The taxi industry says the funding is not enough.Meanwhile, SANTACO Western Cape says it will leave that decision to individual taxi associations and will not be advocating for fare increases as a Provincial Structure.
