Threading the Needle
from The Beautiful Dark · host The Beautiful Dark
Threading the Needle Do we darn to be damned when silence the choice If we don't pick a side words are filled by loud voice If intention not sown we're put to the sword On the wrong threads of history without saying a word Damned if we do Damned if we don't No fence here for you Who's hedge says we won't? Polar extremes want a stance that's clean We find lost respect if only silence we beam Neutral given gear by expected reason No subject finds matter this side taking season Damned if we did Cold quiet was bidden Souls sparse here good kid Damned neutral gears hidden Can the needle be threaded? Can the point stay sharp? All magnets embedded Please anoint a new start Does the crowd make us blunt? As the hole disappears Is the division we flaunt Just from unpatterned tears We ride the ripples Through the fields of our fair We make tides forming stipples Who needs anger in air? 16 September 2026 This song looks at polarity within society and the expectation from people with firm views that over time tends to extract people from the middle putting a further pressure on unified critical thinking. I tried to paint the idea of threading the needle sonically. The acoustic line slides through it's two adjacent notes for all chords, so the first note passes through the next two on the guitar physically. The water imagery tried to represent the fields we exist in and matter like us are disturbances in the field, the droplets or stipples are our choices which complicate the natural flow thats there whether we are or not, before and after our time. The overall goal was to address the idea of division without actually naming anyone or any extreme and in turn try and thread the needle from a judgement point of view lyrically. Cheers for your ears ✌️
