Threats Loom Over Sikh Separatist Leader | Calgary News

Sikh separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun is under urgent federal protection after receiving a credible death threat, with the FBI and RCMP issuing travel warnings and alerts. The threat follows a thwarted assassination plot uncovered last year, in which two U.S. men were charged and one, Nikhil Gupta, awaits sentencing. Meanwhile, Canadian Sikh activist Inderjeet Singh Gosal — appointed by Pannun to lead Sikhs for Justice after the tragic killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar — also received a threat letter. Four Indian nationals remain on trial over Nijjar’s murder, as tensions escalate around the push for an independent Sikh nation called Khalistan.
