Three New Vegas Charter Schools Spark Debate | Las Vegas News

Three new charter schools are set to launch in Las Vegas next year, sparking a heated debate over educational equity and resource allocation. Legal Prep Charter Academy, Nexus Charter School, and Nevada Early College and Career Academy have been approved by the state and will open in August 2027 — but the Clark County School District is pushing back, arguing these schools are duplicating existing district schools that aren’t even at full capacity. Proponents counter that some neighborhoods lack quality public options, and charter schools offer vital, affordable alternatives. The State Public Charter School Authority defends its rigorous approval process and calls for deeper analysis of declining enrollment trends, insisting thoughtful growth is key to meeting Nevada’s evolving educational needs.
