Three Pillars of Evidence

from Birth Healing Summit Podcast · host Lynn Schulte, PT

Have you ever had a client ask for the evidence behind a technique or do they just care about how they feel after you perform the technique? In today’s podcast Lynn talks about the 3 pillars of evidence: the research, the client’s need and clinical expertise. Research in the birthing world documents the way the pelvis must move in order for a baby to be born; however, there is not published research on the outlet of the pelvis post vaginal birth. Research that has been performed ante and postpartum suggests the pelvis is stable after birth, but clients often complain about instability and pain during both pregnancy and postpartum. In clinical practice, practitioners use the research, their knowledge of anatomy and the client’s story to find the root of the issue and treat it. There may not be specific evidence with grade A double blind studies on many of our treatment practices, but what we do in the clinic often guides the research. Practitioners learn what works in the clinic and through trial and error which is often the guide toward best practices. To learn how to mobilize the pelvis and gain the clinical expertise you need for better results, check out the Treating the Postpartum Pelvis course. A cohort for this course launches August 19, 2024.Have a comment or question about today’s episode? I would love to hear from you.
