Threshold Covenant ~ Pt 2 ~ The Words of Torah are to be upon our Doorposts
from Hebraic Heritage Radio Podcasts · host Eddie Chumney
Blood on the threshold is a sign of the covenant with the God of that house. A house marked with the tokens of the threshold covenant invited the deity into the home. The blood is a sign of the threshold covenant, as it is written: And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. Exodus 12:13 Token, in Hebrew is “owth” and it means: sign, signal, distinguishing mark, remembrance. The words of the Torah are to be upon our doorposts. The Hebrews were commanded to dedicate their doorways to the one living God. This covenant with God is spoken of in Deuteronomy 6:4-9: Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. Deut 6:4-6, 9 Today, this commandment is fulfilled by putting a Mezuzah on the exterior doorpost of the home.
