Thrive Deeper: Acts 1

Acts 1 stands at a crucial turning point in the biblical story. It gathers together the resurrection of Jesus, the expectation of the kingdom of God, the promise of the Holy Spirit, the ascension of Christ, and the calling of the apostles to bear witness to the ends of the earth. The chapter is not merely a historical bridge between the Gospel of Luke and the birth of the Church at Pentecost; it is a theological foundation for Christian mission, hope, leadership, prayer, and dependence on the Spirit. Luke presents the risen Jesus as the continuing Lord of the story. The work of Jesus did not end with his death, resurrection, or ascension. Acts begins by reminding us that the Gospel was only the account of what Jesus “began” to do and teach. The implication is profound: in Acts, Jesus continues his work from heaven through the Holy Spirit, through his apostles, and through the witnessing community he sends into the world - His church.
