Through the Church Fathers: May 2

Today’s readings lead us deeper into the structure and service of the early Church through Constitutions of the Holy Apostles, Book 3, Chapters 15–20, where we see firm instructions for deacons, deaconesses, and bishops, including the humility and faithfulness required in ministry and the sacred order of baptism. We then move to Augustine’s The Confessions, Book 9, Chapter 7 (Sections 15–16), where Augustine vividly recounts the miraculous healing of a blind man through the relics of the martyrs, strengthening the Church amidst persecution.
