Tiedekulma Live | Global Interest in Africa

from Tiedekulma podcast · host Helsingin yliopisto

As the importance of Africa grows, global interest in the continent is also steadily increasing. The European Union outlined the basis for a new strategy with Africa in the spring, while Finland is currently putting the finishing touches on a related strategic plan of its own. Why is Africa such a hot topic right now? What are the key developments when a continent and its countries are seeking wellbeing, equality and new beginnings? Discussing the topic are State Secretary to the Minister for Foreign Affairs Johanna Sumuvuori, Professor of Sociology Elina Oinas, Professor of International Forest Policy Maria Brockhaus and Researcher Gutu Olana Wayessa. Additionally, pre-recorded address will be heard from EU Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen. The discussion will be hosted by Janne Hopsu.
