TikTok Finally Meets Oireachtas Committee | Belfast News

TikTok is finally set to testify before Ireland’s Oireachtas Media Committee after initially refusing, following the tragic M9 crash in August that killed five teens and critically injured a family. The committee seeks answers on how dangerous driving videos — including those showing reckless highway maneuvers — may have influenced the fatal incident. TikTok’s reversal came after pressure from committee chair Alan Kelly, who cited their €2 billion annual investment in online safety and urged them to engage directly. With mounting scrutiny over content promoting risky behavior, this September 23rd meeting marks a pivotal moment to hold the platform accountable and uncover real safeguards against harmful trends.
