Tim, Vittula, episode 5

from Budapest: The Podcast

He is the owner of Budapest’s seminal dive bar, Vittula, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. Over that timespan, Tim has overseen his venue develop from little-known corner oddity, into everyone’s “favorite shithole.” Since he largely keeps a distance from the bar’s day-to-day activities, Tim maintains a little bit of a recluse status, so it was great to catch him and pull the curtain back on the Vittula puppet master. Interestingly enough, we chatted very little about the bar, but did cover a bunch of other things, like: being a sober bar owner, North Korea and Dennis Rodman, the disappeared Malaysia Airlines flight, his previous employment with English Rail, the yearly Budapest district building trash dump, and the horribleness that is August: Osage County.
