(Time To) RUN

You wash your hair and you paint your face (just like a child) Dress yourself in leather and lace (you’re running wild) Hitch a ride to a local bar (you sit alone) Where you sit for hours ‘til you know it’s time (There’s no-one home) You’d better run The mirror plays its special part (what do you see) Its tangled lies are tearing you apart (reality) You don’t do vain like you did at the start (It’s not for real) Just pick up pieces of your broken heart (how do you feel) And then you run And then you run I can’t see inside your head I don’t fear where others tread But I can’t heal where you have bled Guess you’re right to run The pillow crumbles as you lay your head (you fall asleep) Unlocks the world where your dreams are shared (you start to weep) With fantasies that have no walls or chains (you find the key) Nothing to lose but so much to gain (and now you’re free) And still you run Like an autumn leaf that fell to the ground (you’re going down) You knew the time was right to fade away (you’re not around) You disappeared without a word or sound (and now you’re gone) Gone in search of a brand new day and a new sun (I sing this song) But I can’t see inside your head I don’t fear where others tread And I can’t heal where you have bled Now it’s time to run It’s time to run
