Isn't it strange how everything changes yet even more strange how everything remains the same? Well, hi, how are you? This is the Daily Grateful. I'm Michael Croes and we're here on what we're calling motivational Mondays.

Why are we calling it that? I don't know. It just sounded good, you know We're doing this five days week actually six if you count the weekend edition the Saturday edition Which the Saturday edition by the way is totally different the Saturday edition I might have a guest the Saturday edition I might talk about a television show that I watch you never know what the Saturday edition is gonna be and it's gonna be longer than this We try to keep this to under ten minutes or around ten minutes depending upon how we just yak about things You're listening by the way to a podcast. Yeah, pretty cool in it.

I know I kind of know about podcasting I've been involved with it for several years now and I helping people create their podcast teaching podcasting speaking at podcasting events This this sort of thing been around and actually doing podcasts So been around it for a while, but long ago You know talking about motivational Monday long ago I'm gonna go way back in time You know as the old DJs would say flaging back out of the old staco X pull them out golden giddy from the Diddy anyway Did I just say that? It's been a long weekend anyway, and by the way, it's Labor Day if you're listening to this whenever you're listening to it We're actually recording it on Labor Day. I tend to do this. I tend to just go off in different directions I'm going to stay focused.

I'm going to stay focused a million years ago probably about 1969 Most of you weren't even around them. I understand you listen to a podcast chances are very good. You were not around in 1969 in 1969 I was a long-haired hippie man. I was one of those people that's what I had to build on G.

I had it all yeah I the love beats. I was a hippie probably still am yeah, except I now have gray hair and you know that's sort of I don't have a beard don't have a beard, but anyway, I Remember I just loved self-help. I just thought that was such a good thing to do And I saw an ad in the Clearwater Sun newspaper about how to get motivated and you call this number I remember it was a 442 that was a prefix of the number I don't know what to remember the number I remember that night and I this guy answered the phone and he just seemed so up and ready to go And he goes yeah, he says come to our office in St. Petersburg We'll make an appointment for you and we're gonna help you out in Texas and so I said sure why not you know Let's let's do this thing.

So I drive my motorcycle down to St. Petersburg And I get there and it's on the second floor of this building on first Avenue South in St. Petersburg and I go up to the door and there's these two guys and are both wearing suits and I'm wearing jeans and I walk in there and they said you know They're talking about the power of motivation and the way that you have to do this the way that you have to do this is you have to You have to be just ready to be Motivated on a daily basis and the way to do that is to listen to people who know more than you do every day I saw how you do that you go Oh, we got a way to do that and I said how's that he says we will set you up on a monthly program and every month You're going to get one of these and he pulls out a record album a long play record album 33 and a third Well long play record album. I had a lot of those had Beatles side of it But anyway, this was this and it was a different motivational speaker that they were going to hook you up with every month and all you had to do This was long before there was credit card processing and credit cards for them And all of this you had to come down there every month on this date the date that I was there because you starting today And you come back every month and you bring them $30 and after you do that You know, you'll hand you the next album and I'm yeah, all right 1969 90 or 1970 wherever this is whenever this was $30 was a lot of money.

It was a lot of money I think I was working in a grocery store, you know, then part-time or something but $30 was a lot of motorcycle to pay for It was a lot of money, but these guys they just would not back off. They were in there They had to sales then go into you so I just have happened to have you know I just happen to have $30 in my pocket That's what I had with my $30 in my wallet and I never had $30 in my wallet I usually had $5 in my wallet back, but I have $30 in my wallet So I went and I gave them the $30 and they signed me up and I'm sitting there saying all I want to do is get out of here And I so I you know I gave him my name and I said and what is your telephone number? So we can call and remind you and I said yeah, I can do that and I made up a phone number I just wanted to leave so they said okay We're gonna call you there You know a few days before and remind you to come down and get your thing and we're gonna talk you and see how you're doing every month And I said okay, that's great and so they hand me a record album now understand I drove there on a motorcycle I had no idea how I was gonna transport, you know this this record album But I take it and I stuck it underneath my shirt and I got on my motorcycle and I sped away And you know knowing that they were gonna call me in you know 25 days, but they were gonna call me They were gonna call somebody else. I have no idea what it was but I got out of there And I went home and I go into my room I was still living at home then with my parents And I go into my bedroom and I had a stereo system in there and on that stereo system I had the Beatles.

I had the Rolling Stones. I had everybody I had you I had been buying anyway had all those and I pull this out and the motivational speaker is a guy named Zig Ziglar Do you know who Zig Ziglar was some of you will many of you won't but he was as it turns out And as the years went on I saw Zig Ziglar twice Once many many years ago and the last time was sometime I would say around 19 or maybe 2002 2003 is the last time I saw him but before he passed on I went to this big event in St. Petersburg and he was one of the speakers and this guy could motivate you so well And he is so well known for a bunch of his quotes And I had a bunch of those quotes still on my record album, you know that I have I wish I had that record album today I have no idea whatever happened to it But you know he had these quotes that he would go and by the way this guy had so much energy one of his quotes that I like Is you cannot climb the ladder of success dressed in a costume for failure And back in those days that meant you had to put on your white shirt and your tie and you had to look professional today You know and that was so true back then you know what it's so true today But there's no white shirt and tie You can be whatever you want to be and be very successful There's a young woman that I follow on on tiktok named Madeline And she owns a clothing business in Los Angeles a multi-million dollar clothing business and you want to see her All right, there's my daughter Who some of you have gotten to listen to once in a while and my daughter's got tattoos And she buys all of her clothes at thrift shops and she is very successful. Okay, very very very successful So you do have to dress in such a way that you are successful.

You have to admit the energy of being that so that that You know that is still the same. It's just different. Okay. It's just different Another one of his quotes that I really like you don't have to be great to start But you have to start in order to be great, you know that's the same as the podcast I was I was planning this podcast forever, but I didn't start it and now three or four weeks ago I started it doing it every day getting better every time I I would record when I was getting better and better and better But I had to start I had to start starting a podcast Really I have a very nice studio because I did radio for 35 years All right, and I did radio from home for the last whole bunch of those of those years I did radio from home.

They came and built me a studio while I that studio is long since outdated and I've updated I'm in a really nice studio and I make this podcast But you can start a podcast with a reasonably good microphone $60 $70 microphone that plugs into your computer and you use a program You know a free audio program called audacity and you can start a podcast just like that. Just like that You can start a podcast. It's that simple. It is absolutely that simple And then you can grow from there, but you have to start you have to do it and you have to start You want to start a a store?

You have to start you have to plan it out. You you have to go look for a building You have to start So be grateful that we have all of this information Go look up Zig Ziglar on that internet thing or go on Amazon and buy a couple of his books or buy one of his books Start buying one of his books And you will you will be you know, you will be amazed. You'll be absolutely amazed. Maybe sometime this week I'll talk to you about the Reverend Robert Schuler I'm really grateful that he was in my life in the 70s Really really really grateful about that because he taught me a lot of cool stuff You know, he did not have the power of positive thinking like Zig Ziglar and all these other people did No, no, it was not that at all It was something different.

I'll share it with you when we talk about it You know, it'll it'll be fun. Hey, have a great day I hope you're probably going to the beach today or you know, you're probably not listening because you're probably having a picnic with the family because Summer's over except here in Florida. We're summer last forever, but Go have fun. It's Labor Day.

You've labored enough. Take a day off. We'll talk to you soon
