Hello and welcome to Toots Tuesday. It doesn't seem plausible that Lou has not played the song Natural One yet, but he says he hasn't. Mini-Music Monday guy? What do you think?

Is he played it for Mini-Music Monday? I don't know. I'm with you. It seems impossible that he hasn't played Natural One yet.

Yeah, we can't break this out. So if you haven't played the most popular song that you've ever recorded, you know, if you want to, you know... Oh, you're low. Yeah.

Yeah, what the soundtrack man says. What? You've seen it already. You think you haven't blown your load yet and you want to...

This is it. I guess this is it. Yeah. What is this, a brass?

Oh, God. They're starting to gang up on me. I was assholes. Dear God.

Well, I can... Mini-Music Monday guy, tiny Toots Tuesday guy, the twins. Yeah, are they working together now and... Yeah, and...

Given you a hard time? For track, man. Mm-hmm. They weren't all on my back.

I think this birthday thing really put them over the edge. They're like, wow. You really suck, Lou. Oh.

I'm sorry. Well... Is that how you're feeling inside? Yeah.

Definitely. Yeah. Definitely. I got to do a birthday right someday.

This is getting ridiculous. Yeah. You never know what can happen. I could die.

I mean, let's be honest. And then you live with that deep, deep regret. Well, I'm not about that, but maybe that'll motivate you. Regret never seems to really motivate me.

Maybe that's not true. Really? It's not true. I've made some changes.

Yeah. I've made some changes over the years based on shame, deep shame and regret that I might cause. I think I didn't actually legitimately feel regret till I was 40 years old. Really?

Mm-hmm. Because I was living in that delusional period leading up to 40 where you say things like, no regrets, man. That'll happen for a reason. Even when things were horrible, I would still...

Yeah. Yeah. I kind of like had this... There's just a purpose for it all.

There's no regrets. It was weird. It was almost like 40 hit and this feeling, it's almost like the swell, this wave. You're just getting hit by this massive wave and the ocean just smacking in the face.

And it's like, hey, you know what that is? That's regret. Over to... Well, have you experienced the massive tsunami of regret?

Yeah. Yeah, in fact, you're going to be in your knees in a second. It's really swatted around. That's kind of the same for me, actually.

I'll say that too. Because I was a big no regrets guy, even when my life was like... Ridiculously not great. I was still like, no regrets.

And can I say one thing about that before you play? Yeah. Oh, no! I can't!

I'll say it after you play. Let's say it. For what? Hmm.

Hmm. Hmm. He's wanted. He's like, really?

You haven't played natural one? Well, here it is. I don't think I played it. It's not on the list.

Play the sexy song. Wait. Oh, God. This one actually played on acoustic or is that played on an electric guitar?

That part? That's on... That's bass. That's the lead guitar part, which is this.

Oh, I love that part. Yeah. And then there's also like... Oh, yeah.

There's lots of parts in that one, hun. Yeah. The bass part is white as your head. But I wrote the melody originally on acoustic guitar.

Oh, you did. That was like... I'm the one natural one natural one natural boogie. Natural one natural one get high.

Natural one natural one natural boogie. Natural one get high. Which was this kind of a goofy thing that I wrote. That was goofy.

Yeah. But then it just happened to work over this slinky bass line that I wrote. I love that bass line. I'm the one natural one make it easy.

We could take it inside. Or I can love how I like if I want it. Whatever keeps me high. Yeah.

We can take it. Good and loose on it endlessly. It's good. Because we may.

Yeah. And when mom is not around there's no telling what we'll do and we're free. I'm the one natural one make it easy. We could take it inside.

I can have it cause I act like I love it. It's a matter of pride. Yeah. We can take it.

It's good. It's good. Because we made it. And if the world is falling down it may as well crash with me.

When I'm known natural one. It's the one. The one natural one. When I'm known.

I never know how to end this when I play it acoustically. I'm like now what do I do? Where's the jam? I don't know cause the song's kind of based on a jam.

But even when John and I play it, which we did, John and I were, I just got back from a full conclusion to work. Yeah. I was like, I'm wrong on the tour. Every night.

Great. We play the hits. We're not, we're not those kind of people. They're like, that's too obvious.

I don't know. That would be great on the T-shirt. The folk emplosion. We play the hits.

You know what else plays the hits? That was for Junior. Fuck yeah. Play those fucking hits.

That's when I rejoined the band. I was like, you know what? I think I'm going to be okay with this. Even though JNR, you know, we've got our differences, but he plays the hits.

That's a similarity. Yeah. It's a real similarity. Because a lot of, they won't play the hits.

They're too good for the hits. I love the hits. I love the hits. Can't play the hits.

Yeah. That was a hit. That was actually a billboard. Let me say this again.

Maybe it's like, I'm hoping that as I get older, I don't exaggerate the chart position that it hit. Can I Google it real quick? Yeah, go ahead. Okay.

Let's see. Google it while I am. Well, tell us what you think it was at. I think it hit number 26 on the top 40.

It was a, it was at the K.C. K. some top 40 was happening. So the man whose voice I loved and identified with pop music that I grew up listening to, I would listen to the entire top 40 every week with my friend Mark.

We would listen to the whole countdown. K.C. K. some American top 40.

Sorry. What did you say you thought it hit at? 26. Oh no.

Sorry, buns. What? It, it, the song peaked at 29. 29.

On the billboard hot 100. Okay. But listen to this. 29.

Number four. I really wanted that nine to be a six, didn't I? Listen to this. Number four on the billboard modern rock tracks chart.

Did you know that? Yeah. Okay. And number 20 on the billboard mainstream rock tracks chart and number 45 in the UK singles chart.

Oh. So you're still in the 20s. All right. Wasn't 26.

It was 29. Damn. Sorry. Do you want to say it's 26?

I can't because it's not true. See, I actually, I actually cheated three spots. I've been telling people it was 26. But I saw, I bet I saw the nine.

You know, you know, you know, six and nine. I do know. They're interchangeable. I can face each other.

Really? 29. I'm the one natural one. Oh, booze.

Dang. Ouch. That's real guys. Well, I had to know.

That's a humbling little moment, huh? We thought it was 26 and 29. I think it's still really good. I love when you thought it was 23.

Amazing. I mean, I'm going down to three places every couple of years. Well, you brought it back up at least. You know, you kind of, okay.

It's going to be okay. Okay. Okay. I'm going to say, I'm going to say, I'm going to say, I'm going to be a six.

I can say actually stamp on you? Okay. Oh, it's going to be okay. Okay.

Let me distract you by finishing my thought on regret. Which is this. So when I turned 40 and true, bring you to your knees regret started to hit me. That feeling lasted for a while, like deep, deep regret.

Okay, so many regrets and just like slapped on your left and right. And I remember thinking, holy shit, I thought this was just like a made up word in the dictionary, just some fluffer thing that we just didn't really have meaning. And I remember thinking so many times, oh, this is a real thing. Regret is real.

And holy shit, it feels like garbage. And then now I've kind of crossed over into another place where I'll say the regret isn't gone, but I've changed my relationship to that feeling of it. And now I go like, thank you. Because it's insightful.

It gives me clarity. And regret is okay. I also don't have to fear regret. I think I'm living with it in a better way, if that makes sense.

So it must be nice. Good for you. Yeah. Good for you.

Yeah. Great. How do you feel about regret? Do you feel like your relationship has changed to it?

Well, regret is kind of a new thing in my life. Oh, so you're still new to the regret game. Okay. Well, it gets deeper.

The regret. It gets deeper for me. Because I feel like I made so many poor decisions. And that, and important ones.

And because I have, I have a family, I do think sometimes like, gee, if I could have just like cut a few of those terrible choices out of there, you know, maybe we wouldn't, maybe I wouldn't be struggling as much. You know, I mean, I, anyway, you know, the band, the Butthole Serfers. Not personally. Be a sub for Mel.

They had a song called Sweat Loaf. Oh. What was kind of a cover of Black Sabbath, Sweet Leaf. Okay.

It was kind of a, but it began with a man speaking, recording of a man speaking to his son, you know, ostensibly, you know, supposedly, supposedly his son. It's better to regret something you have done than something you haven't done. And by the way, when you see your mother this weekend, tell her, Satan, Satan, Satan, Satan, Satan.
