Tips for peaceful Thanksgiving conversations...

from Julie Gammack's Iowa Potluck · host Julie Gammack

This Thursday is Thanksgiving when many families come together from far and wide. Not just physically but also, politically and culturally. Half the country voted one way in the presidential election, and the other half voted for the other party’s candidate — or didn’t vote (gasp). These family events can have multiple generations seated at a table, so just incase you’d like to ward off any rancor, we here at Potluck Central have some ideas that might be helpful. Our Potluck guest this week is a psychologist who speaks about generational differences, and how to create cultural change in the workplace. Here’s a refresher on the timeline for the various generations:* Baby Boomer (1946-1964)* Generation X (1965-1980)]* Millennials (1981-1996)* Generation Z (1997-2012)Societal influences including economic, political and demographic have a major impact on the overall outlook members of a certain generation have from early experiences, and those differences can cause miscommunication and lack of understanding. Gustavo offers conversational tips to have an engaged, not adversarial, dialogue with others.
