Titus 1:1-2--Doctrine and Devotion Series Week 2
from Faith Sermons and Studies · host Faith Baptist Church
Have you ever worked for a goal? It can be especially gratifying to have a goal, pursue that goal, and to finally achieve it. It could be the goal of a certain GPA in college or high school, the goal of finishing a special project you worked for many weeks or the goal of finally making the last house payment. Maybe it’s the goal of working towards a special feet like tackling an endurance race or winning a fishing tournament. We all have had goals larger or small, and whatever the goal is, there is a sense of satisfaction in pursuing the mark and working for it and finally completing it. God has goals for us to—goals for our spiritual lives, goals for our relationships, goals for nearly every aspect of our lives. And he wants us to follow his goals! But too many times, our goals do not match God’s goals. We may have our own goals that we pursue and invest in with our effort in our lives, but in doing so we can easily push God’s goals for us aside. God has very specific goals for us in our spiritual lives and as we come to our text today, we start the first section in Titus chapter one, we encounter the Apostle Paul. And we encounter how he lived his life and what he strove for and the goal that he had for every single person on the island of Crete to whom he would minister through Titus. And if we unpack the apostle Paul's words for to his protege Titus in this book, we learn the goals that God has for us as well. So as we unpack this text and we discover what God has for us today we learn the idea that God has goals for our spiritual lives and from this idea we learn our big idea for today, and that's: Big Idea: God’s goals are greater than our goals!
