Titus 1: Set In Order What Is Lacking — The Assignment, The Qualifications, And The Most Searching Verse In The Chapter

In this episode of Bible Chapter by Chapter, we walk verse by verse through Titus Chapter 1 — the opening chapter of Paul's letter to a leader left on the island of Crete with a demanding assignment: set in order what is lacking, appoint elders in every city, and stop the mouths of false teachers who are overthrowing whole households for dishonest gain.We work through four movements. The opening and the assignment — I left you in Crete for this reason, from the God who cannot lie, whose promise of eternal life predates time itself. The elder qualifications that mirror 1 Timothy 3 — character over credential, the home as the first test, holding the faithful word that can exhort and convict. The false teachers — vain talkers overthrowing whole houses for dishonest gain, reproved sharply that they may become sound. And the closing diagnosis that frames the whole letter: they profess that they know God, but by their works they deny him.Professing without adorning. Claiming without the works to match.
