TLRH | Women’s words: Women in the Book of Leinster
from Trinity Long Room Hub Podcasts · host TLRHub
Thursday, 11 March 2021, 1 – 2pm A lecture by Christina Cleary, O’Donovan Scholar, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies where she will discuss the small number of ascriptions of poems to women, as well as speeches and dialogues from the mouths of female characters, in the twelfth-century Book of Leinster (TCD MS 1339). Although mere interpretations of the female experience through a male lens, and often far detached from their social reality as clearly outlined in the law tracts, these expressions attributed to women provide insights into how medieval Irish society perceived women and how they expressed themselves. Organised by the Manuscript, Book and Print Culture Theme supported by the Trinity Long Room Hub. Learn more at: https://www.tcd.ie/trinitylongroomhub/
