TLRS Ep.43: Girls Rock Camp

from The Little Radio Show

This week on The Little Radio Show we talk about a Harvard student who drove her undocumented mom from Texas to watch her graduate. Her mother is an undocumented immigrant from Mexico who works as a housekeeper. Norma Torres Mendoza received her Master's degree in public policy from Harvard University with her mother watching on. We have a great interview with Anna Garza and Muna Javaid of Girls Rock Camp Houston, an organization dedicated to "empowering girls and women of all backgrounds and abilities through musical education and creative expression." The camp offers girls ages 8-18 years old to participate in a one-week program during the summer that will give them a chance to write their own songs and learn to perform. They were recently featured in the Houston Press. Their registration continues to June 30, 2016. "The Little Radio Show" is on HMSNetRadio.org on Thursdays at 2 pm (CST). The show hosts are Sandra Fernandez (@sandrasays), Juan Alanis (@juanofwords), and Anjelica Cazares (@la_anjel).
