TMJ 086: What It's Like Running A Code
from TMJ Show - TheMDJourney Podcast · host TheMDJourney
What is running a code actually like!?You see it a lot in movies and have probably heard about it through actual doctors whether you’re a pre-med, med student or outside of the medical field. One of the most dramatized parts of being a doctor is running a code, especially code blue. A team of medical staff from doctors, nurses and others drop everything they are doing when they get paged or called to rush to a room to stabilize a patient. They do what they can by doing CPR, giving medications, checking their pulse, repeating the process and hope the patient recovers. There are a lot of emotions in a scene like that. As someone who has led the running of a code, there is some truth to that and even more. Sometimes you’re running in that room with little to no information about the patient. There’s a lot of commotion going on and you have to delegate specific rules from the timer to the person who gets the meds. Occasionally, you also ask the family to stay outside, all with the purpose of making sure the patient is stabilized. That can sound nerve-wracking. But what’s often not mentioned is what happens after you get the patient’s heart rate back to normal. Depending on the situation, the patient may still need some form of medical attention.Running a code is one of the biggest challenges of being a doctor. But, I can tell you that there are always lessons to be learned from each patient experience that can help you handle the next one better.I talk about how I run a code from assigning roles and ordering medicine to the mindset I have from start to finish. That and many more to help you prepare for your first or next code!Email Me: [email protected] EXACTLY I Became A Doctor - Grades, GPA, MoneyHow Much Doctors Make In The USAHope yall enjoy!Don't forget to help our new project grow by subscribing on iTunes or your favorite podcast platform!Give us a Rating & Review to be entered for a weekly giveaway for a free eBook or Video Course!Subscribe to us onApple PodcastSpotify PodcastGoogle PodcastStitcher PodcastDisclosure: This description contains affiliate links which means I may get a commission if you make a purchase through my link at no additional cost to you.
