Bumper Andy and I recently returned from attending Podcasters Across Borders in Kingston, Ontario. We had an amazing time. Iacirc;euro;trade;m so glad to have become part of an incredibly supportive podcasting community. Iacirc;euro;trade;ll be posting photos on my Flickr page so you can see for yourself what a terrific time we all had. During his presentation, Neil Gorman used the analogy of podcasters as seeking out new frontiers as in the days of Star Trek , the original episode, to boldly go where no-one has gone before. This weekacirc;euro;trade;s quotable quote fits nicely with this line of thinking. ...the more a literacy practice privileges participation over publishing, distributed expertise over centralized expertise, collective intelligence over individual possessive intelligence, collaboration over individuated authorship, dispersion over scarcity, sharing over ownership, experimentation over "normalization", innovation and evolution over stability and fixity, creative-innovative rule breaking over generic purity and policing, relationship over information broadcast, and so on, the more we should regard it as a "new" literacy. The quote comes from A New Literacies Sampler by Michel Knobel and Colin Lankshear. Stunning and breathtaking are words I would use to describe some of the work Iacirc;euro;trade;ve seen produced by fellow podcasters, and thatacirc;euro;trade;s no exageration.
