To Know Him
from Victory Church Jbay · host Louis Els
“But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.”Philippians 3:7-11Last week we looked at the progression of our belief into faith into rest. This week we will be looking at the word that Ps Louis shared entitled “To Know Him”. God is inviting us to know Him better and the invitation is always open. He wants authentic relationship with us. It’s important to remember that we cannot approach God from an intellectual point of view, but we need to allow Him to reveal Himself to us. God is revealed and not understood. The more time we spend with God, the more we look like Him, and speak and think like Him. We are transformed in His presence. Our experience with God cannot merely be information based. We cannot just know about God but we need to experience the One we’re learning about. There is fruit to knowing God. The way we think and speak starts to sound like the Kingdom and outcomes do not sway us. We can stop referring to the past, and look forward to the future He has for us. We can walk in power and be dependant on His Grace. We can jump when He says so because we fully trust Him. We don’t need to ask, “Are you sure you can catch me?” God is waiting for us to come closer and His invitation is always open. He is inviting us to lay down our self-effort and simply approach His throne with boldness. Questions There is always more to God and He doesn’t put a limit to His presence. Are you satisfied with the level in which you’re experiencing God? If not, what are some things you can do to improve that? Are there things that you are still believing God for but need to lay it down and trust him? What is hindering you from getting to know God better?
