Derek Lalonde and Bob Boughner have been relieved of their duties behind the bench, and instead have hired Todd Mclellan as head coach on a multi-year deal and Trent Yawney as assistant coach. Is McLellan the savior we need? Who knows. But the move to hire a new head coach now rather than in the offseason shows me Yzerman has not given up on this team and the locker room. McLellan has plenty of regular season success but not much postseason success to speak of. The real headline here is that there is no one else to take a bullet for Yzerman anymore.
