Tom Rutherford: Justice Select Committee Chair on the Government's controversial move-on orders bill looking set to be watered down

The Government's proposed move-on orders look set to be watered down. The Bill will let Police order people out of public spaces for rough sleeping, begging, and disorderly behaviour.  The Justice Select Committee suggested changes include lifting the minimum expulsion age from 14 to 18 and reducing fines from $2000 to $1000.  Committee Chair, National's Tom Rutherford told Mike Hosking two contentious changes his party didn't agree with, also got through.  He says this includes narrowing the definition of begging and allowing people to come back to the area after receiving a move-on order.  But Rutherford says he's overall happy where it's ended up, as they've made some pragmatic changes.  LISTEN ABOVE  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
