Tomas - Ode 2 Prince + Michael

from Tomás. · host Tomás.

So, I'm going through my catalogue of music, refreshing myself on some of the songs I've written (believe it or not, due to the strokes, I don't even remember doing some of these!). Then, I happened upon this one. Now, I don't often toot my own horn, but while listening to it, I remember writing and producing it, because anyone who knows me, knows my oft spoken respect for my "trilogy of artists" whom I put before all else... Prince, Michael and Stevie. And, yes, in that order. The song is indeed an ode to my two artists who passed away within 7 years of each other, then, adding the fact that Stevie performed and hung out with both of them), and both Prince and Michael had a special love for him. Now, this song had received over 2k plays, and for some reason I made it private after a bit, though I have no idea why I did that.... but it should be heard! I listened to it a few times today, and I love the way I did it. It's an ode to Prince and Michael, but done in a very Stevie style. The heavy funky bass, and the ongoing background vocals, and the upbeat keys and percussion sound and drums ... man, it brought a smile to my face! I opened it back up, and I hope you give it a listen and think about Prince and Michael, and the sad way they both left us... Prince from an accidental overdose of Fentanyl, and Michael died (under a doctor's care) of acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication. It wasn't the time for neither them. They had everything to live for. They had more to do. They were living the good life. Prince was at the top of his game and he grabbed a pill that was packed stronger (dosage wise) than what he was used to, and died almost immediately, in his elevator, in his home. Michael was about to embark on his record-setting sold out 50 concert appearance at the O2 Arena in London. It was to begin on July 13, 2009, and he died on June 26, 2009. He had just wrapped up his last rehearsal that day, and they were to be soon on their way. But, the point of the song is to point out that the media and the gossip columnist are going to focus on the negative. It's the yellow journalism, the hype and extremities that sell their articles and newspapers and garner the most clicks on their links. I want you to remember them for the love and joy they brought to the world. The beautiful music. The magical performances. The style they brought to the stage and to fashion, in general. Michael's Moonwalk. Prince's splits (in those heels!). I want you to focus on the lyrics of their songs. The themes oof their albums. The genius that they both had. The truly gifted artists that they both were. I miss them both. (And, "Stevie, please don't leave us, too!") - tgr ---------- ODE 2 PRINCE + MICHAEL Music+Lyrics byThomas G Robinson Da da da da da (X3) Late in June it was a sunny day Thursday morning, 2009 As long as I live I won't forget the day The king is dead, and it's a crime!
