In the dead of night, as people sleep, that is when the spirits creep. As the bell tolls three, dark things take power. We like to call it the supernatural hour. Hey, stay Patrick, stay still.
It is. So we're making your holidays. So we're green, so you don't get pitched. And...
See, stay Patrick, stay still because of me, because of my fact. Do you think we should welcome people to the supernatural hour? We won't get them. Look at them.
Come back, stay still. Sorry. I'm going to say the supernatural hour. Can I talk about our five-year-old?
I feel like. Seriously, welcome to the supernatural hour. In my favorite podcast, Go figure. I'm Raven.
I'm Rogue. I'm Chad. Okay, back to stay Patrick's day. I can't wait to talk to you.
We do the porn beef and cabbage. We really die something green. Absolutely. Do you play the backpipes at home?
Not on the backpipes. Okay. But usually someone hires me to go play out their home. Oh, really?
I'm waiting for that. I might be different this year because of cold COVID. Some states are not right now because they're not going to be so much stuff. Right?
Which is not the same as you think. Right. That being said. Okay, let's talk about business.
Well, how about we'll get you doing some backpipes and we add that on to the YouTube station channel coming up and get a little blurf. Okay, nice segue going there, Rogue. Yeah. We have a YouTube channel.
Right now, if you go to YouTube, you just have to search for the supernatural hour. Supernatural hour podcast. Oh, okay. Supernatural hour podcast because right now our official YouTube link is one of those really long PW Capital D, XY, Love, Love, The Thanks Forever.
If we can get a hundred-slip-scrubber. Then we can have something cool like this supernatural hour. Or advanced paranormal. Or advanced paranormal or something short and easy.
So go out and find it. Click it. Like, subscribe, subscribe. Oh, you know what I hate?
You know what I hate? Smash that button. Smash that subscribe. I hate that.
Just push it. Click it gently. You don't have to smash ours. You can just click it.
There you go. Yeah, like a touch screen. You can just tap it gently. Smash it.
That's like that's as bad as a pop of color. I'm so tired of a pop of color. It makes it pop. Interesting.
Okay. The things we've learned have ravens today. It has nothing to do with the paranormal. But if you could smash that subscribe button and try that and hate that.
Just as long as you find it. It's in red. Hit that subscribe button. And then like.
Listen to the YouTube videos. Watch the YouTube videos. To the end. Or mostly to the end.
Because it really helps with the analytics. Right. Yes. And hit notification bell.
So you'll be notified when we upload. And change the bell. Please. A little bit of them.
A little bit of them. Self-serving them. Self-serving them. Hey, you know, put it up a little bit.
Well, it's new. I'm pretty excited. And I'm happy to have this out there. And I think it's going to grow.
And I think it's good for our listeners to have the opportunity to get to hear us that way and grow. And Chad does a really great job of putting videos out there and add from where we're going. So it kind of just brings you into a little bit more. And some visuals to it.
Yeah. And please share the podcast and the YouTube stuff with your friends. We'd love to have more people listen to the podcast. And on YouTube, you can talk to us.
Right? Yes. You can give us our messages. You can comment.
So we would love to have comments. That would be awesome. All right. So happy St.
Patrick's Day. Where are my green? Okay. I got my family.
I wear my green today. I look like to recruit for the BYU. Yes, you do. I can intend to have everything I'm wearing.
I'm wearing how to be what you look like. But here I am. So, you know, go kooks. If you're a new time school.
I was like a new fan. So here we go. That's okay. Thank you.
So did we have any investigations? We did. We did have a few investigations. We even had one here.
And you talked down. What a surprise that is that we came to you. We're really ever going to sell the camera. We did one.
We did. This one out here in Utah County was pretty amazing for me. I'm going to have to say that it was probably the most beautiful home I have been in while we've been doing our investigations. Yes.
And the other thing that really stood out to me is that in that home, I don't think I have ever felt so much love. You know, usually I can feel anger or, you know, this, I don't know, animosity. I still think you can cut it with a knife. But in that house, I thought the love was almost so thick you can cut it with a knife.
And it was a really spectacular home and family to work with. So I think part of the difference there is usually when we get calls into a residential, it is someone that was scared by what's in their home and they want to know what it is, why it's there and get it out, which is understandable. And that's one reason why I'm not doing this because you can help people feel something. This was a little different in the people were little sensitive.
It was a family and by family, extended family. There were probably 13 people there. Yeah. And normally in investigation, we would tell people we don't keep it down.
But this was more, we're just curious. They weren't scared of it. They weren't, you know, it wasn't, I mean, we did nothing to move anything. The son even told us what was there and what he could see and how he was working with it.
Right. They just got a lot of confirmation. Yeah. They didn't bring it up.
They didn't bring it up. They just confirmed what we are pretty sure we already know. We did figure one thing out that they didn't know. And that was one of the spirits wasn't only.
Right. And I don't believe that they realized that they had an attachment to one of their paintings. Right. And this gentleman, it was his painting.
Sometimes you can convince these spirits that, you know, you've passed and someone else owns a painting. And that was his painting. So we told them how much he said he thinks it's his. He's not going to share.
We asked him. He literally said, well, you share it. He's like, oh, this one. But, you know, hold on.
It's not like he can be, you know, pack it up and take it somewhere else. So, right. But I think it's cute. He just kind of sat on one end of the fireplace.
And her kids later said, Mom, you need to move. And her kids are older. Mom, you need to move with this. I guess she's got that, like a record book.
He can move this record book. Okay. And I just thought that was so sweet. That is nice.
Oh. Yeah. And it's a really lovely view. He didn't pick a horrible place to hang out and adore his painting.
I know he's one of the few spirits. If I'm ever spirit, haunting someone's house, I'm going to find the nice place. I'm sorry. Oh, absolutely.
And if you sit on me, he said, I'm not going to hurt. You know, I'm going to sit on the comfy chair with the remote. Right? I'm happy with the loom thing.
But maybe, I don't know. If I have a spirit turn on, it will actually turn on TV on. Oh, really? I'm interesting.
So, we also did a home recently in Salt Lake County. Was that the first one you've done since you've been with us? No, my first with us was the Bible frontier. Oh, that's not what I'm thinking.
Yeah, I've been with the group now about six months. It's gone really fast. Have a lot of fun. Yeah, so that was really interesting as well because that homeowner was also she was a meeting and she knew it was in her home.
And again, missed the elemental, which I get because elementals for me. I don't know what it is about elementals, but sometimes I completely forget about them. And then someone else that says, you think it could be an elemental, when I say okay then what? Right, let's find out.
So this one was really interesting because when we determined that it was finally an elemental, we were in this room and you've probably heard me tell before on this podcast. To me, people have feels like and feel people. I mean, I can I can see people obviously because I'm all but I'm more feel people than see people. And so we're all standing there and I can see everybody on the team when they were side of us there that night.
There were and I could see all five people. But at one point I said, I didn't even get to do it there. I said, who are we missing? And I think you said to me, yeah, we're all here.
But one of our investigators was on the other side of the threshold. He was like, out of the hall. And as soon as he walked through the threshold, it's like, oh, there you are. Even though I could see him, we know he walked forward like two feet.
And so we asked if elemental was standing in the doorway. And that's about the same time we had all that going on. And I put the goes pro meter down. And that's where you got the photo of the orb on my shoulder.
Right. That was happening all about the same time. And if you remember what drew us into that room to begin with was that amazing little thermal camera that's one of the team members of the brought team has access to thermal camera. And I have some more time.
Yeah. Yeah. I'm going to have to say I do it as well. That brought out some really interesting corner in that room.
And we verified that there was no water source. And I thought that there might be a pipe there. Right. He asked the homeowner and one of our team members actually went outside and did some reconnaissance and came back in.
Has video. There's no there. There's no there. And she confirmed that the homeowner did.
Right. And there was a point where you were, I don't remember if you were watching through your camera. And I was watching through the thermal camera. And both of us at the same time go, oh my gosh, did you see that?
Yeah. That was pretty crazy. But I don't know. I don't think we got that on video, but we got that working with the camera.
So from my perspective, when I look through my camera and I take pictures and splashes, I can see the tracers. And there's something that says, I go, I'll take 50 pictures, not see a single face. But this one, you know, had a bunch of them. And one was so bright.
And when it kind of, it was close and probably the brightest tracer I've seen, I went, that's when I said something like, Oh, wow. And you said, did you see that? And it was just right at the same time. Yeah.
Because to me, it looked like there was a hand reaching out out of this purple globby, blue energy thing we were seeing. Yeah, it was, it was great. That was a really fun one. Right.
So that was, yeah, that's, I think I say this every time that I was one of them and I think for me, some of it, one of the reasons it was so fun, one of those, just realizing that an elemental, if there's an elemental between me and a person, it kind of can block you, it can block. I don't know if it's because the elemental is absorbing it. I don't know if I just can't read through the elemental. I don't know, I don't know, I'm just from here, but it's going to see what walks through that elemental.
It's like, Oh, there you are. Even though my apples have been looking at you for the last two minutes, you didn't register until I couldn't tell you came through that elemental. Yeah. So that's simple.
Yeah. And then to hear back from the homeowner and to know that, you know, we really helped family out. Yeah, she said that she, it was the first time she's been able to have a peaceful night sleeping quite some time. Yeah, a couple years, I think.
And that's why we do this. And the thing about for a normal is, in my opinion, it's very, you can't separate paranormal images and people can like you with me in that fine, we can't have our own opinion. But it's really hard to prove anything and everyone's going to think a little differently depending on what your whether just backgrounds are. And half the stuff we do to get rid of both might be a bunch of doing.
I don't know. But regardless, I had a homeowner come through and say, you came to my house and you did stuff, and I haven't been able, right? Yeah, I've been able to sleep for the first time. I thought, yeah.
So, so it was, it was really cool. I really enjoyed that. I mean, she's lived in that home for 20 years. So that was a good one.
And so then from there, we did our public investigation. Did we have that in between the, they all kind of go together, but I think our public investigation was in between those two? Yes, I think it was. And our public investigation was at a restaurant called the Dalton State Calc and if you have not eaten there, you are missing out on some fabulous food.
I had the filet, and it was amazing. And on the second night, I had chicken and awesome. Right. So they're putting was delicious.
I mean, the whole meal, and they had a special goes to yours menu for us and gave us a great price. And with the tickets and everything, it was a phenomenal, it was a phenomenal value for all of our, all the people that they go since. At once. And as far as investigating, the first time we've investigated that, so it was a team we actually met before.
And I can't remember if she showed her face on the public night, but when we went the night before his team, Lucy fought in for just a couple weeks. She's your dad. And apparently her portal and the portal we found there are connected. For those who don't know who is Lucy?
So Lucy is, we call her Lucy, the Dean of Princess. And she is the guardian of her portal in the basement of the Family Tree in San Diego, which is no longer there. And that one has been on a number of national broadcasts like the Deadpile that's been on. What's the one with that?
Maggens? I don't know what his menu goes to ventures. Yes, goes to ventures. It's been on at least those two and I think probably a couple more.
And apparently Lucy checks on this portal. She was only, she only stayed for a couple minutes, but she had to go back to hers. But just through this area is a question. And the way I can tell Lucy is when Lucy's around, like when I'm in the basement of the Family Tree, I get like a massive headache on the right side in a certain spot.
And so we were talking to the spirit that was like this portal, which is in bathroom. And just my head started to hurt my and I asked her if there were others she checked on and she said yes and asked her if she would tell me when they were and then she told me no, Ruth, right? Of course. So there's more out there.
Well, I think we ran into another one. I don't know. We'll have to check that one out. Where's there's a investigation camera from June.
We'll talk more about that possibility. So let me go there. Anyway, but I was wondering is she just getting bored at the Family Tree because there's nothing going on there. She might be because after that investigation, Chaz and I drove over to Family Tree because it's not that much where there's like four to five miles away.
And the building that the Family Tree is in is I mean, there's no signage. Any kind of anything. Not even for salesign gone. So I don't know what's going on with that often to ask around listen to people that you know.
But yeah, part of me wonders if she's just bored. I'm not talking to anymore. So I'm afraid my ears up and if nobody's buying in it, it's just sitting around and somebody let us just come in and do some investigating that way. Well, I think part of it is, you don't want to set up something and then you have a buyer.
Yeah, so the Lucy thing will keep you up and you want to have. Yes, she's always fun to go. Well, travel other than that. I have a piercing headlight that she was.
Okay. Right. So yeah, if you missed all of these, we are definitely going to be doing the entry. Looking at maybe something around how long time.
Oh, really? It was fine. The owners had some fun ideas to do with kind of some other ones. But we'll keep you up there.
And they were really into it. And they had experienced staff and everybody there had experienced paranormal. We hadn't, you know, been there before and they started talking about some of the different things that they had experienced. Yeah.
So the they have a type three that guards that portal. And it's a lot small. I don't want people going, oh, they just don't need to. It's a much smaller one.
You know, not nearly as that. I mean, it was a very active venue. But the staff had already named that Bridget Bridget. So is that the type three?
Is that Bridget? Yeah. Yeah. And she's actually whispered her name.
She's named herself. Oh, because people there, you know, the staff have heard her name, right? Or at least they she's given them a name. Yeah, nothing.
It may not be heard her name, but that's the name she's given. Well, like Bridget, you can remember that. Well, in my group, and thanks to my group, thank you for hanging out with me my first time being out there and your patients. But I did have a gentleman in my group who felt like he was getting spiritually attacked.
And we had to be obsidian out for him, the selenite. And we had pretty active that. And we had one gal that was getting attacked pretty and severely. And she had to go home.
Yeah, she wasn't even able to say. And I think she was being attacked. There was another spirit that was pretty dark. And this, the gentleman that was on my team, if that happened at the same table where she was at, because of course, when that happened to her, then we all had to go sit at that table to, you know, see what would happen to us.
Right. And that table shared a wall with the salon that's right next door. And we have actually investigated there about four years ago, three or four years ago. And they have a pretty dark entity there too.
And as we discussed in the presentation that we usually do for our applications, Mason is a very, very active city, especially in that folder part, which is where we work. It was kind of more in the kind of made the joke that everything was thoughtful happening about two blocks in that restaurant. It's really not too far from it. Very active, very, you know, a lot of Native American activity going on there.
The Black Hawk War, a lot of Black Hawk War. Now we're going to have listeners that say the Black Hawk War was in the Midwest. Yes, there's actually two Black Hawk Wars. There was one in Midwest and then one in like the San P, Utah.
Southern Utah County. Southern Utah County. Southern Utah County. Yes, area.
And Dalton has a nice memorial for some soldiers. Do you want to talk about one of those special soldiers? One's my grandpa? Yeah.
Because I'm from case in Georgia. So I walked into Dalton's about a year and a half ago. And the first picture I said, okay, and they kept that there. So that's pretty special.
So that wall right there. So it touches this lawn. It has the memorial. I just think there's a lot going on in that one little corner.
Yeah. And then they have the table place setting for the fallen soldiers. Right there too, which I thought was very much a trigger area for any spirits that were soldiers. So I kind of got off track on my, there's a, I believe it's a type three.
I didn't get a chance to talk to it because one didn't get to go back in the kitchen as much. But I think it's the same entity that was in the little office the night before, but a very, it's a male, very dark. It's either a very, very dark type two or a type three. But I think it was, Bridget for being a type three was awful playful.
We were told that there was a couple of kids. I've got like there were kids that were bouncing around and playing around in there. Oh, speaking of bouncing around, I'm the bounce back to Bridget. She's actually really playful unless you call her snake and then she gets really dark in her.
Oh, because we had the grid on kind of in her area. The laser grid. The laser grid. And I was trying to get her to make it with one.
She did really download just like the bottom couple inches. I'm like, how can you just make it with a snake? And then, yeah. She didn't like that.
Oh, she went down at all. Okay. That's actually kind of a struggle. And then she made a big wiggle in the thing.
It's like, there you go. Oh, you go girl. So she can get a little spot in the collar. I'll have to remember that next time we go out.
I didn't have anything like that. So the darker guy was in the kitchen the second night, but the office the first night we named him. Ricky? Yes.
Desi. We named him Desi. And why? Because Desi and Lucy, even though Lucy was only there for two minutes.
Oh, I can't think this way. Someone else came up with it. Okay. That's scary.
They named him Desi. But Desi's very dark, very brooding. It's a good venue. So if we have another extra to come yet, I don't know what else we can do it.
Oh, the food alone entices me. Yeah, we'll definitely be going there. Sounds good. I like that.
Okay. Well, we do want to talk a little bit about and I want to thank Road for helping us set up. We have set up a shop on our advanced paranormal page where we can buy, where you can buy products, sage sprays, sage and lavender, just different products. We've got salt.
We've got all sorts of things. So go out and take a look at it, purchase your paranormal supplies from the advanced paranormal shop, click on that and you get the everything's all working in there and Road helped me get that set up and I appreciate her for helping patients with this on that. So if you have any questions about anything that's out there, any of the products, if there's anything that you would like to see us have, create, carry, we would love your feedback. So one of our upcoming businesses is in April, I think I've added this to 24th building on our calendar.
Should be a set. For your worker cemetery thing? Yes. Okay.
Well, yeah, that's the 24th. We are going to go out and work our cemetery. And if you haven't been out there recently, thank you to Wiggly, all the little fences around the headstones are starting to get somewhere and you can tell that some group has gone out probably in the last 30 years or so. I mean, it might be a series.
If you're the one that did it, so I'm not trying to take an extreme point to me, but you can tell that someone's been out there and refurbished it, but it needs to be refurbished again. And by refurbished, we just want to extend everything up so it's not wiggly and falling over. There's a few slats that are missing because some people from all use that were very light. I thought it would be an awesome idea to tear the slats off and burn them in fire.
And we actually found, we wouldn't fire a bit and the slats were there. I'll burn and charge, we can take pictures and send it to the toilet family sheriff anyway. So we're going to go out there and just replace the missing slats, show everything up. These same people decided because not all, if you've never been out there, there's 22 plots that have these scents in around it.
And then there's dozens and dozens, there's about 100 people buried there, but there's dozens more that just have circles of stones around it. And one of our investigators, when we were there last, I told them, and someone had tried to dig up one of them. And so it's like partially dug out. And there are some pictures, if you go out to events, burn on the dot com and go to the past events, you can go down to the Mercury Cemetery.
And there are some pictures of the plots with the gravestones and they're the fences around them, things like that. So it's really interesting. So we have a full fundraiser, we've got a feel-fund me, kicking around on Facebook, I've done it on Facebook pages for Wisps and the Facebook page for that, for normal. So if you're listening to this and would like to help restore the dignity and historical significance of this cemetery, please go home and just go and every little bit count $5, $10 that would be awesome.
We just need to get some slats and just, you know, some other little cylinders to help preserve this and keep it going for hopefully another year. Perfect. I look forward to being part of that. So just hop on Facebook, go to Wispsatch investigative society of paranormal study for advanced paranormal services to search for those on Facebook.
Yeah, and if you go to advanced paranormal.com and go to our events, it's actually listed as event and it's free, that the actual service project is free and we have unlimited tickets, but it will help us to know how many people are coming, but we encourage you to go out and sign up and come out to Mercury Cemetery. Bring your shovels, gloves, water, there's no water, so if you mix up cement, we're gonna have to haul it ourselves. So if you come out, you have to bring three or four gallons of water. Bring that your ticket.
You don't have water, you gotta go into toilet and get some. Bring your kids, bring your friends, you know, this is a wide open service project that we're looking forward to doing some good work here. Right. So should we move on to our topic?
Yes, and I love this topic because it's Irish. It is. Going back to the St. Patrick's Day, it's got a lot about Irish mining.
Mining was really big in Ireland and Scotland and just kind of the whole area. Today we're going to talk about Tommy Knockers. You know, I never knew Tommy Knockers was anything except the movie. I've heard of the movie, but other than that, I don't know that I've heard of the movie.
It's a Stephen King movie. I think it's a book, I think you've got a book and then they made a movie. I would assume. What's the premise of that?
In a movie slash book. Never seen it. Me either, not a commercial success or maybe it was and I just have no clue. But the lore.
Yeah, it's like it's a paranormal thing. Sweet. But it doesn't have anything to do with Tommy Hilfinger, right? No, but that's something different.
Yeah, Tommy Knockers don't design clothes. That is one thing I do know. You know, we were tasked to talk about Tommy Knockers and I learned a little bit. You know, you have these tales of small, little mini-sized peoples that generally originated from England, Scotland, Ireland.
Wales, Wales as well. You know, everyone knows about leprechauns and they're kind of known to be misjus. Mischief is a little turds. You go around and cause problems.
And don't they like color your toilet water green these days? Yeah, and they also are mascots for breakfast cereal. They do that. Yeah, look at John.
We need a Tommy Knocker cereal. Oh my gosh, yeah. I mean, that'd be delicious. Tommy Knockers cereal.
Damn, we got an idea guys. Let's run with it. Well, they're Scottish brownies. I don't know how many people have heard of brownies.
And you're not meaning like the baked goods. You're meaning like not the baked goods. At some point, we'll get serious here for the promise. Not the girl scouts either.
Although they are little individuals. Someone from Scotland? Yeah, they're probably from Scotland. But brownies, they are small creatures, little human-like creatures that live in your house.
And apparently if you put a bowl of cream out, they will do like tasks around the home. So they'll clean your house. They'll do your laundry. So it's worth giving it a shot guys.
That's all I'm saying. It's maybe put both cream and maybe, you know, magic will happen. Maybe my laundry will magically get done. See Chad already thinks I'm going to do magic.
It does. And you don't even put out a bowl of cream. So you got leprechauns, you got brownies. And then there's Tommy Knockers.
So Tommy Knockers originate from kind of Wales, Welsh Cornish, folklore. They are generally described as two-foot tall individuals. They have human-like features, maybe a little bit more wrinkly with white whiskers. And they're associated with the mines.
So well, sorry. And some of the things I've read, I didn't say they were considered green. Green? That's my green skin color, which I thought sounds like leprechaun.
Yeah, well, they're probably like I said, they're early, or maybe not on this podcast, but they aren't the blue-colored leprechaun. Pretty much. Two feet tall, green. Yeah, disproportionately large heads.
That was the other thing they mentioned. But they were miners close, which does not sound like Tommy Hilfiger at all. And you know, there's a Tommy Knockers movie, there's also a Leprechaun movie. Awesome.
It's awesome. I'm in Leprechaun. Are we talking about the old one from like the 50s? I'm thinking like 70s or 80s or 80s or 80s Halloween Leprechaun?
Anyway, I don't know. It's our real gillum of the book. No, not that wasn't that one. No, no, this is the Leprechaun.
All right, back on task here. So these Tommy Knockers, they live in mines, reportedly at least based on folklore. And these miners would say, you know, when things would go missing in the mines, if they had their food down there, their tools, and they couldn't find them, they would blame the fact that their stuff was missing on these little mischievous turds called Tommy Knockers. And you know, I thought about where the hell did the name Tommy Knocker come from?
You know, I mentioned it to my wife and she thought it was some inappropriate something about her. So now, you know, the knocker part comes from a knocking sound. And so there's two different takes on these Tommy Knockers. One is that they're just these little mischievous elf light things that go and steal your stuff.
And the other one is that they're pretty diabolical, and you can hear them knocking before these caves or before the mines collapse. So they're knocking out the supports and things to make the mine collapse on people. So these are these are evil little characters that are going around and causing mines to collapse and killing people, which doesn't sound nearly as cute as these little guys who steal your food. So could they possibly be a little combination of both, depending on their mood?
I suppose. They could be... You're not in a bad mood. You're not in a good mood.
You're not in a good mood. You're in a good mood. You're in a good mood. You're laundry.
Yeah, I just like the brownies. Come like me. You're brave. And so that was one of the takes is that, you know, these are malevolent creatures that are, you know, out to kill the miners.
You know, a lot of people say, well, right before mines collapse, you tend to hear the supports start to creak or break or knock or knock. And you can hear the earthshifting before everything comes collapsing down. And that's the knocking sound that people are hearing before the mines collapse. But some people are convinced that there are these little creatures that are causing the collapse.
So when you start hearing the knocking, it's time to get out of mine. Get out of dodge, guys, because it's going down. Exactly. So this all originated over in Wales.
It was, you know, when people immigrated over to the United States, they brought this legend with them. They started working in the mines again in Pennsylvania. A lot of Pennsylvania. Lots of Pennsylvania.
And you know, even clear out to Colorado and Nevada, California, your stories of Tommy Nockers as well. One of the things I thought interesting is about the 1820s, Cornish miners were really welcomed. They were mining went goes back a long, long time. If you've watched the movie, it's on Netflix.
It's pulled our chat and I watched it. It's fabulous if you need a Netflix series to watch. And one of the key things that they do in in pulled our kids mining, it's a very integral part of the movie. And it takes place in Cornwall.
So if you want to see kind of what this was like at the time, then give that show a watch. But what they would do, that's my little pup he wants to get involved in this podcast. So what the miners in the United States would do is they would go to these Cornish miners, because you know, their excellent miners have been doing it forever. And they would say, you know, trying to recruit and they would say, hey, do you have any relatives in England who might want to come work the mines.
And the Cornish miners would say things like, I'm going to try to do this in my best Cornish accent, which is not going to be very good. I'll just put that in there. Good luck. Says, well, me cousin Jack over in Cornwall, what's to come?
Could she pay his boat ride? That didn't sound Cornwallish at all. Except the E part, probably the E part, yeah. Yeah.
And that is, I dropped the H. If E could pay, E pay is boat ride. Perfect. That's what she was going to get.
So they would do it because it was worth it to them to pay that boat fare to get these Cornish miners over here. And so a lot of these immigrants would come over and they took on the nickname cousin Jacks. And they were actually the core of America's early mining force and not only in Pennsylvania, but even into the California gold rush. Interesting.
And it sounds like after they came over to the United States, the kind of perception of what Tommy Knocker's were became a little more ghostly than Elvish, I guess I could say. It's more almost like spirits that are, you know, you know, giving you these warning signs of impending doom, mind collapse kind of stuff. And some of them thought maybe spirits of miners that had died in the mind collapse and were then trying to either warn or be vindictive. So less Leprecony, more ghostly.
More ghost-like. We actually watched a YouTube video last week about a fellow who went into a mine and experienced an actual Tommy Knocker. He just starts knocking. It scared me.
It ran out. But yeah, they're still around. Do they have minds? Well, it's pretty interesting too.
I mean, you know, we talked about into the 1920s, even as late as 1956, I found a story where... That's true. So there was a large mine that closed in 1956 and the owners sealed, you know, the entrance and all the other, you know, the entrance of the mine off. And there were these four fifth and sixth generation cousin jacks, like you mentioned, who literally circulated a petition that called on the mine owners to set the knockers free.
He'd need to release the Tommy knockers so that they could move on to other mines. Here's a little interesting tidbit that the Cornish believed that they were souls of the Jews who crucified Christ and were sent by the Romans to work as slaves in the mines. That's all I made. Whoa, loaded.
Yes. And their belief was so strong that according to them, the Tommy knockers were allegedly never heard on Saturdays, nor at the times of Jewish festivals. So if you mind on Jewish festivals or Saturdays, you weren't going to hear Tommy knockers. You're good.
No Tommy knockers. Wow. Devoutly religious Jewish ghosts. Yes.
So yeah, just throw that little tidbit in there. My goodness. You know, and it's just funny because these, you know, you get these lore and these theories and they just go all over the place because I feel like I feel like I told Doc something he didn't know, which is really, really hard to do because he knows a lot of stuff. I knew nothing about that.
So thank you. My mind is still a little blown here. Think of that over. Geez.
We can cut out some of this quiet stuff. So I found a fun story about Tommy knockers. It's called a California ghost story and it's retold by a gentleman named S.E. Schlosser.
And like we've been saying, Tommy knockers are in part thought to be spirits of dead miners. I kind of like the, I kind of like the Jew theory, but that's not related in the story. I'm trying to figure out how the Jew thing got tied into the mining in, you know, welsh and Cornish folklore. But hey, you know, I just I just give the facts as I find them off of Google, however factual that may be.
So, anyhow, so according to this story, they're of the belief that they're departed miners that are helping the miners, you know, living miners find ore and to warn them of a cave and by knocking. And so, you know, he says, if you hear Tommy knocker knocking, that's best to depart, you know, whether they're doing it to help you or whether they're pissed off when they're knocking the supports down, it's still best to leave. And they've saved some miners in danger. And some folks say that the very first man to hear the sound is jinxed, but that's not necessarily always the case.
It's good to stay on the good side of Tommy knockers. And like we've mentioned, they'll leave out little tidbits of food to kind of placate them. But there's this one unlucky miner named Eddie who became a target of the Tommy knockers. They drove him crazy.
They would pelt him with stones, they would steal his tools, they would often blow out his lantern, and he could not figure out why they had singled him out until one day he actually heard a voice calling to him from the dark. Now, there was a shaft nearby that was, like the opening of a shaft, it was really dark. And the Tommy knocker said, Eddie, I want my $5. And Eddie was so startled that all the tools he was holding, he just, you know, they fell on the ground.
And he said that the voice sounded just like his old friend named Joe, who had died in the cave in a few months ago. And Eddie had borrowed $5 from Joe and had never returned it. So Eddie goes to the shaft. And sure enough, there was Joe's ghost shrunk to the size of a two foot dwarf with a big ugly head, large hairs and a crooked nose.
And he had kind of a peat hat and leather jacket and the boots that he was wearing were just water soaked. And the Tommy knocker was not very pleased to see Eddie because he's pissed off because Eddie never came back. And he said, give me back my $5 Eddie. And Eddie looked at him and said, I don't have any money on me, Joe.
And he kind of pulled his pockets out to show, you know, I indeed don't have, you know, the ghost is looking at you're like, dude, I seriously don't have $5 with me. Oh, leprechaun ghost. I know your friend is like, I'll shrunken and his head turns the test. I mean, this isn't like, you know, from the movie, better off, I want my $2.
It's not a kid on a bike. This is like a creepy ghost, right? And the Tommy knocker says he had heard that before. Didn't leave it then.
I don't leave it now. And then the Tommy knocker is peered. And Eddie's sitting there uneasy, he's kind of, you know, crap. You know, what's he gonna do next?
You know, now I know why he's pissed off and I don't have $5. So what's gonna happen to me? So, you know, he's like walking around all day just uneasy kind of freaked out. But all day long, he was plagued by that Tommy knocker.
His ladder was shicking really hard so that he almost fell off. He could hear loud tapping noise of an invisible drill that just almost drove him nuts, not like the tapping of get out, but kind of a different drill sound. He just missed being buried by a rock fall. And all no matter what happened all day long, he kept hearing this voice, giving back my $5 $5.
So finally, Eddie's just being driven nuts and finally says, I'll write Joe, I'll write. And he yelled it into the mouth of this tunnel that he had seen in the shaft. And he said, get your bloody $5. And so he left work for the day.
And you know, back then, you didn't just leave work for the day because money was hard to come by and my name was hard work, but he's like, fine, I'll leave. And so he made the long climb to the surface because back then they didn't have fancy elevators and conveyors to get you up and down. And he got home and he took five silver dollars for the money box that he kept under a loose board in his bedroom. He climbed back down the mine and stuck the $5 in a crack in the wall next to where Joseph Spirit said appeared to him.
So we went back to that shaft, you know, found a crack in the wall, put in these five silver pieces. And the Tommy Knocker Joe appeared again and said, it's about bloody time. And he kind of looked into the crack, you know, like he's counting up, making sure it's all there. And Eddie said, are you going to leave me alone now?
And the Tommy Knocker grinned, you know, kind of maliciously at Eddie, as it may be. And he scooped up the dollars and disappeared. Wow. Okay.
So there's a real life Tommy Knocker story. So are they good? Are they bad? Or do they just want $5?
I want my five dollars. I mean, that five or five at Arby's is pretty awesome. It's pretty awesome. So I mean, I would maybe try to kill someone for one of those, but probably not.
So you know, that's the big debate, right? Are these things? Are they good? Are they bad?
Are they spirits? Are they not? And, you know, through my studies on what Tommy Knocker's were, how do they get to America, right? Because, yeah, sure, we'll give you the whole deceased miners thing from, you know, Welsh and Cornish folklore, or maybe these Jews that were involved in the crucifixion of Jesus.
There's, you know, Cornish legend says that these Tommy Knocker's literally jumped into the suit cases of these Cornish miners and came over to the United States. Yeah. It makes, I mean, obviously, from a folklore standpoint, you know, how do they get here as a creature? I guess you would have to jump into a suitcase.
Maybe kind of a stowaway somewhere. Maybe as a spirit, you could be some form of an attachment. Not sure. Something to think about, I guess.
So there's a mine in England, and it's called the Wheel Roots Mine. It's spelled W-H-E-A-L. It's actually now called the Poldark Mine, because it's the one that they feature in the show Poldark. I know I keep bringing that up, but it's a really good show.
You really should watch it. And it's believed to be Britain's deepest mine, and it was most active as a mine in 1720 for about 60 years. So 1720 to about 1780 is when it was active, and it's mostly abandoned, starting in the 20th century. A little bit of mining after 1780, but not a whole lot.
And according to Haunted Britain, the mine is known for seeing swirling mists that materialize in photographs. And one time in that mist that materialized, and one of the photos or just a short video, there was a brown-clad figure that materialized in it and then vanished. Interesting. I also read that there were a lot of times I'll see lights in the mine as well.
The green lights down, and the little glow. And in the same Poldark mine, they have... there's a long dead miner that roams the tunnels, and they hear him. He's not seen, but a paranormal group that went down in this mine to do some investigating captured a stream of foul-mouthed abuse when they were doing an EPP recording.
Interesting. And then there was a woman known as Dorcas who died, and she started haunting this mine, and she took a fancy to one of the miners and followed him around. And she kept saying his name to get his attention. And one day she said it so many times that the miner finally had to leave.
