Tomorrow Starts Today - Audio

from Greater Life Church Hosted by Landon Long

n our text, the people of Gibeon had joined forces with Israel. The battle was going well, but as night began to fall, Joshua knew that he needed God's assistance. God honored his prayer, and made time stand still. The desperation in Joshua's voice appealed to God. Joshua knew that he had to have victory on that day. He said, today will be different. Time is nothing to God. It makes no difference to God that today is Sunday, or that it is cold and rainy. God is not intimidated by our past, and not fearful of our future. Unlike Joshua, God is not worried about doing battle in the dark; either the physical or spiritual dark. God is at His best when things look the worst. Even in the dark times and in chaos, God is working. We are about to celebrate the new year. For many people, the new year represents a new beginning. The truth is that January 1 is just another day. The real newness begins with God. Miracles happen on just another day. It was just another day for the man by the pool of Bethesda. THIS is the day that the Lord has made. If He made it, He can work a miracle in it. Many start a new year with great enthusiasm, but by the end of the year, they are looking at what they started but left undone. Many begin their new goals with energy, but soon fall into old habits. Beginning is not the problem for these people; their problem is finishing. The old story of the tortoise and the hare illustrates that it does not matter how good the start, the key to winning is finishing. It does not matter how we start, but how we finish. Even if the start was slow, and had some obstacles, finishing is the key. God will forgive our shaky start as long as somewhere along the course, that we turn to Him and finish with faith. Fishing the race ist he key. Paul said "I fought the good fight." Fight. Singular. He surly had problems along the way, but the kept His faith and stayed the course. We are all still in the race. No matter what may have happened up until now, we are still int he race and that it is not over. We have another day. Today we must do what is necessary to make it til tomorrow. Joshua knew that he had to make it to another day. He did not want to face another day facing the same enemy, so He ask God to hold the day so that he would face a new day looking at a new situation. He knew that his future would be shaped by today. Whatever we are facing today, we can have a better tomorrow. The race is not over. There is no better place to begin a new tomorrow than at an alter. Tomorrow can be better and tomorrow starts today.
