Der zweite Teil von Kapitel 5 befasst sich mit MPEG-Audio im Detail, mit anderen Audio-Dateiformaten und mit Klangsynthese.

Im ersten Teil der Vorlesung wird am Beispiel der MPEG-Audio-Kompression relativ detailliert auf verlustbehaftete Audio-Kompression eingegangen. Die Unterschiede der drei klassischen MPEG-Audio-Layer werden erklaert und es wird kurz in weiterfuehrende Standards eingefuehrt. Anschliessend werden verschiedene andere Audio-Dateiformate (ohne verlustbehaftete Kompression) diskutiert, z.B. WAV und AU. Im letzten Abschnitt der Vorlesung werden Grundprinzipien der Klangsythese eingefuehrt, wird der elementare Aufbau von Synthesizern erlaeutert und wird das Audioformat MIDI beschrieben und demonstriert.
