Tone - Bursts And Patterns V
from Electroacoustic · host Roland Kuit
I started synthesis in the 70s with a second hand ARP 2600. This formed later my path in life. As a former student of Gottfried Michael Koenig, my research includes texture timbre and timbre change by articulations. Combinations of trajectories of texture and development of form to create a composition. I work here with the ARP 2500 for the intrinsic sound of this synthesizer. Indeterminateness contained sound, and this is the type of pseudo chaotic material as basis to process further. Density plays a big role in composing the textures. Bringing the trajectories of texture development to the spatial quadraphonic domain, the spatial positioning and the possible movement of sounds become an extension of the timbral positioning in the mix. The precise composition of the separate elements in a texture was still determined by the development of the timbres of these elements and their position in the quadraphonic space. By use of pattern controlled Ring modulation these timbral elements were formed. Spectral amplitude and frequency holds and processing the quadraphonic sound into stereo ambisonic sound is the role by Kyma. As well as the sample management of the ARP 2500 recorded audio. At the Institute for Sonology Utrecht we used to split tapes and by using different play speeds we created immersive textures. Now done in real-time by Kyma.
