Tongue Tie - Episode 11

from I am a Health Visitor Hosted by Amy and Jenny

By popular request! Amy and Jen chat to Carmen Pagor (HV and IBCLC) about Tongue Tie. We talk about assessment and spotting a tongue tie - it's a much more complex business than it might at first sight appear - as well as the differences for breast and bottle fed babies. We discuss the role of a HV in identifying possible tongue ties, supporting parents through decisions around whether 'to snip, or not to snip' as well as the vital follow-up care which is needed and why it is so important. We learned a lot on this call (you can tell by our enlightened 'aaaaahhh!' noises throughout!) and we are sure you will too! Thanks to Carmen for her input. Listeners can find Carmen at: www.facebook.com/beyondmilk You can also find the tongue tie assessment tool by Alison Hazelbaker at the following link. It may help HVs identify some signs to look out for: https://www.med.unc.edu/cmep/education/current-residents/rotation-information/newborn-nursery/hazelbaker_frenum.pdf Thanks again for listening, as ever you can add your comments or suggestions to [email protected]
