Too deep
from Poetry by Tim Windisch · host Tim Windisch
Too deep Rolled down black socks and cheap sandals Undersized tank top pouring over love handles Some sun block on his nose, sporting pince-nez shades Ten-dollar mullet cut with some gray hairs in the fades He’s a big-time optimist with a great big high hope A sweetheart he imagines as he’s getting high on dope Mr. Happy go lucky has aged into a stoned dreamer to keep A forced smile in place cause it’s hard not to go down too deep Too deep with no light above Too deep lost looking for love Running in circles trying to walk a straight line He’s just a square, crying inside says he’s doing fine One time he was the life of the party, everyone’s favorite guy Lost his feel, felt like a hamster on a wheel and didn’t wanna try Love was the ticket, tough to get through the thicket, always another chore More time, more money, goddamn where’s my honey? Can’t deal no more Seemed to be the harder he tried, felt lonelier and cried; “What am I doing wrong?” I can’t possibly replace; close my eyes I see her face; I know it’s where I belong Barefoot walking on sharp stone, climbing up alone; I struggle cause the way is so steep It’s dark, I push on to the light; it’s my life and I’m going to fight! Not turning back I’m in too deep Too deep, but I think I see light above Too deep, lost but I know I found love Running in circles trying to walk a straight line I’m just a square, tired of lying about doing fine I want to be the life of the party, everyone’s favorite guy Found my feel cause of you, babe you’re my reason to try Never too deep… Tim Windisch 05/31/2023
