Too Late!

from NPPBC's Media Ministry

A sobering message with eternal significance, Pastor Tommy Boring’s sermon “Too Late!” from Luke 16:19-31 brings listeners face to face with the powerful account of the rich man and Lazarus. Through this well-known passage, the message reminds us that there comes a moment when opportunities end, decisions are final, and eternity begins. The rich man lived in comfort and luxury while Lazarus, a poor and suffering beggar, lay at his gate longing for even the crumbs from his table. Though their lives looked vastly different on earth, eternity changed everything. Lazarus was carried into paradise, while the rich man lifted up his eyes in torment. In hell, the rich man suddenly realized truths he had ignored in life, but by then it was too late. Pastor Boring uses this account as a warning against delay and spiritual complacency. Too many people assume there will always be another opportunity to pray, another church service to attend, another chance to get right with God, or another day to share the Gospel. Scripture reminds us that tomorrow is not promised. The message emphasizes the tragedy of missed opportunities. The rich man had countless chances to show compassion to Lazarus and countless opportunities to heed the Word of God, yet he neglected both. In eternity, he desired only a drop of water and wished he could go back to warn his family. The realization of what could have been became part of his torment. One of the strongest challenges in this sermon is the urgency of sharing our faith. The rich man begged for someone to warn his five brothers so they would not come to that awful place. Pastor Boring reminds believers that we still have time to witness, pray, invite people to church, and tell loved ones about Jesus while the door of grace remains open. This message calls Christians to live with urgency and purpose. Be on fire for God. Love people. Care for those in need. Make things right while there is time. Do not put off salvation, obedience, forgiveness, or compassion for another day. There is coming a time when every opportunity to respond will end. The question is not whether that day is coming. The question is whether we are ready. Now is the time to seek God. Now is the time to warn others. Now is the time, before it becomes… too late.
