Too Many Footnotes and Not Enough Time to Reflect

At the end of INFERNO Canto XI, we've already come a long with our pilgrim Dante. We've also encountered lots of moments that need explanation and lots of interpretive knots.But I want to call our attention to the criticism of an Italian scholar who claims that COMEDY has been killed with footnotes.Here's our moment to stop, reflect, and think about the achievement and beauty of Dante's craft. Sure, it's fun to be down in the weeds of interpretation. But since Virgil stopped to offer a map of the road ahead, maybe we should stop to look back at our road.This episode does not break into easily divided segments.
