Too Tired to Try Again? What Jesus Told an Exhausted Fisherman
from Daily Hope with Pastor John S. Dickerson · host John S. Dickerson
Are you exhausted from trying something that hasn't worked, and now it feels like God is asking you to try again anyway? In Luke chapter 5, Simon Peter had fished all night, caught nothing, and was already done for the day when Jesus told him to push out into deep water and let his nets down one more time. From a human perspective, it was a ridiculous request. Peter had grown up fishing this exact lake. He knew what time the fish were out, and it wasn't now. He was physically spent, his nets were already clean, and rowing back out meant hard, exhausting labor for what looked like no reason at all. But Jesus wasn't asking Peter to trust his own strength. He was asking him to trust obedience over exhaustion. In today's Daily Hope, Pastor John S. Dickerson unpacks this moment in Peter's story and asks a simple but pointed question: where in your life right now does obeying Jesus feel impossible, too tired, too late, or just not fitting your situation? That workplace conversation, that relationship, that habit, that ministry step you've already tried and failed at. This episode is an invitation to respond with childlike faith anyway.
