Topkapi Palace

Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, Turkey, was where sultans ruled an empire for 400 years. The fountain near its main gate was used by executioners to wash their blades. Separate tickets are required for the Harem and main palace. Spring (April–May) or Autumn (September–October) are the best seasons to visit, avoiding Tuesdays when it is closed.
