TOROS. SAN FERMIN

from ssl4you Learn Spanish · host teresa sanchez

The running of the Bulls. San Fermín If you like bulls and danger and you are free from 7th to 14th in July you should come to to Pamplona a city in Spain to watch the “Encierros”. Every year thousands of visitors join local people to see how some brave people run for two or three minutes in front of some bulls from their pen up to the bull- ring. The length of the run is 800 metres. You don’t have to sign up anywhere to take part; you just enter into the run and choose the street where you will run. At 8 in the morning spectators place behind the fences, runners are crowded together , and ask protection to the Saint , a rocket goes off at the moment the bulls are let out. The bulls run so fast that is impossible to keep up with them for very long ,so when runners see the bulls are getting closer they run faster, when they arrive and after hanging in near for a short time they get out of the way as cleanly as possible. There are always injured people, not only by bulls but also it’s quite normal to be knocked down and be trampled either by the bulls or by other runners. Local runners always choose to run the same section and usually train 2during all year. I always find a safe place to watch the run from behind the fences.
