#ToTheBallot -The state of Women politics in South Africa

from NIGHT TALK · host SAfm

Why is it that women in politics seems to always be playing a supporting role, can women political leadership go beyond being a project and work in progress to being an actuality? We have this conversation at the back of the new ANCWL leadership announcement following the League's 13th National conference in Nasrec, South of Johannesburg. .Deputy Minister for Women, Youth and People with Disabilities Sisisi Tolashe is the new President of the ANC Women's League. According to the League, its newly-elected National Executive Committee represents a good inter-generational as well as demographic mix, but is it relevant, is it necessary or will it be impactful? We reflect on the history and significance of women in politics in South Africa. Oliver Dickson is joined by Political Analyst currently working at Centre for Human Rights at University of Pretoria and Prof Amanda Gouws, NRF funded Chair in Gender Politics
