Toyota LandCruiser 300 diesel V6: Is the hot vee a lemon?

from AutoExpert · host John Cadogan

The new Landcruiser 300 V6 diesel engine will feature a so-called 'hot vee' - where the exhaust is in the vee between the cylinder banks, and the inlets are to the sides.   And this does have some technical benefits, like minimising lag and maximising efficiency. Merc, BMW and Audi have adopted some hot  vee engines.   But they are prone to heat-related problems, like excessive oil consumption, and premature valve seal failures. Toyota has had a litany of technical problems in recent years, concerning the deployment of far simpler tech (like the 2.8 diesel DPF failure fiasco).   Do you slam $100k (or more) on the table and roll that dice, or watch from the sidelines while others roll it for themselves?
