TPOE 199: Eoin Aher (Cyprus Avenue)

from The Point of Everything · host The Point Of Everything

A year without gigs... March 2020 marked a year since our last 'proper' shows. My last one was Girl Band at Cyprus Avenue, Cork, on March 7, 2020. Eoin Aher, who has been booking shows at the venue since 2003 joins to talk about how Covid hit his livelihood, how they've been dealing with it since and whether we can expect gigs later in 2021 (spoiler: hopefully). We then talk about the archive project he's put together for cyprusavenue.ie, listing all of the shows that have been staged there since 2003. We feature early gigs by the likes of Snow Patrol, Gavin James, the Blizzards, Mumford (and no Sons at that time) and lots more, as well as some of our favourite and most memorable - the likes of any Fight Like Apes gig of five in 2007, Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip and Villagers. Eoin also discusses the venue's refurbishment, the changing tastes of audiences, the importance of the support band and slot, and why they don't book shows based on streaming numbers. https://www.cyprusavenue.ie/archive
