בלי מעשרות זה בלי ביטוחThe Gemara in Bava Batra 10a teaches:“Just as a person’s sustenance is decreed from Rosh Hashanah, so too, his losses are decreed from Rosh Hashanah.”It's not only about how much you will earn — it's also about how much will leave you.So ask yourself:How do I want my money to leave me?Through tzedakah and maaser — or through expenses, damage and losses that I never chose?Chazal say in Gittin: “Salt your money by making it less.”Don't wait for the money to leave you.Let some of it leave through a mitzvah.המקור הוא בבבא בתרא י' ע"א,שם נאמר: "כשם שמזונותיו של אדם קצובין לו מראש השנה, כך חסרונותיו של אדם קצובין לו מראש השנה." ובהמשך הגמרא: "זכה — הלא פרוס לרעב לחמך; לא זכה — ועניים מרודים תביא בית." אנחנו עושים ביטוח על הבית, על הרכב, על הרבה דברים. אבל יש "ביטוח" מסוג אחר שאדם צריך לחשוב עליו — מה הוא עושה עם הכסף שהקב"ה נותן לו."כשם שמזונותיו של אדם קצובין לו מראש השנה, כך חסרונותיו של אדם קצובין לו מראש השנה."כולם יודעים שהמזונות וההכנסות של אדם קצובים. אבל חז"ל מגלים לנו שגם החסרונות — מה שעתיד לצאת מהאדם — קצובים.והגמרא ממשיכה:"זכה — הלא פרוס לרעב לחמך; לא זכה — ועניים מרודים תביא בית."כלומר, יש לאדם כסף שעתיד לצאת ממנו. השאלה היא איך הוא רוצה שהכסף הזה יצא.האם הוא זוכה לתת אותו לצדקה, למעשר, לעניים — ולהפוך את הכסף למצווה?או שהכסף יוצא בדרכים אחרות?רכב, תיקונים, נזקים, הוצאות בלתי צפויות, רופאים, דוחות ועוד.זה לא אומר שאנחנו יודעים חשבונות שמיים, ולא שכל נזק שקורה לאדם הוא בגלל שלא נתן צדקה. אבל חז"ל נותנים לנו כאן הסתכלות עמוקה מאוד:הכסף לא בהכרח נשאר אצלך. יש סכום שהוא עתיד לצאת ממך.ואז מגיע עוד מאמר חז"ל בגיטין: "מלח ממון חסר."כמו שמלח משמר את הבשר, כך יש עניין "למלוח" את הממון — להוציא ממנו לצדקה, כדי שתהיה ברכה במה שנשאר.אז כשקשה לך עם כסף, וכשאתה אומר: "אין לי מספיק לתת מעשר" — אולי דווקא אז צריך לעצור ולחשוב:איך אני רוצה שהכסף שלי ייצא ממני?אל תחכה שהכסף ייצא בדרך שאתה לא בוחר.תן לו לצאת בדרך של מצווה.תן לו לצאת בדרך של חסד."כשם שמזונותיו של אדם קצובין לו מראש השנה, כך חסרונותיו של אדם עשר תעשר פרשת ראה פירוש הגראA person needs to understand something very important:We insure our homes, our cars, and many other things. But there is another kind of “insurance” a person needs to think about — what he does with the money Hashem gives him.The Gemara in Bava Batra 10a teaches a powerful idea:“Just as a person’s sustenance is decreed for him from Rosh Hashanah, so too, a person’s losses are decreed for him from Rosh Hashanah.”Most people know the first part — that a person’s income and sustenance are determined. But many people don't realize that Chazal also teach that a person’s losses are determined as well.The Gemara continues:“If he merits — ‘Is it not to share your bread with the hungry?’; if he does not merit — ‘and bring the poor who are cast out into your house.’”There is money that is going to leave a person. The question is: How does he want that money to leave him?Does he want to merit giving it to tzedakah, to maaser, to people in need — and turn that money into a mitzvah?Or will that money leave him through other expenses and losses?Repairs. Damage. Medical expenses. Fines. Accidents. Unexpected bills. And many other things.This does not mean that we know the calculations of Heaven, or that every loss happens because someone didn't give tzedakah.But Chazal are giving us a very deep perspective:Not all the money you receive is necessarily meant to stay in your pocket.And Chazal say in Gittin: “Salt your money by making it less.”Just as salt preserves meat, there is a concept of “salting” your money — giving from it to tzedakah, so that there can be blessing in what remains.So when a person says, “I don't have enough money to give maaser,” perhaps he needs to stop and ask himself:How do I want my money to leave me?Don't wait for your money to leave you in a way you never chose.Let some of it leave through a mitzvah.Let some of it leave through kindness.“Salt your money by making it less.”
