Traffic Safety Thursday: 2022 By the Numbers

from The Valley Today · host Janet Michael

We recorded today's Traffic Safety Thursday conversation on a Tuesday at the Frederick County Public Safety Building with Lt. Warren Gosnell from the Frederick County Sheriff's Office to learn some traffic numbers for 2022. Lt. Gosnell gave statistics for their December checkpoint and explained the logistics of how they work. We talked about the types of infractions they saw, learned when cars must be impounded for certain issues and discussed the safety issues they addressed. He told us about the 93 traffic fatalities that occurred in our district (Staunton) between January 1 - November 30, 2022, up nearly 34% (69) from the same time period in 2021. We talked about how some of those tragedies happened, discussed the notion of "victimless" crimes, and again he reiterated that quotas are NOT implemented within the FCSO.
