Nieuwsuur heeft in 2017 een grote scoop. In de uitzending laat een man een wit poeder zien. De man is van de Coöperatie Laatste Wil (CLW) en het poeder is volgens hem een humaan zelfdodingsmiddel. Ze noemen het Middel X. De aankondiging veroorzaakt veel aandacht. Het effect: een run op een zeer dodelijk middel. De mensen achter de CLW zien zichzelf als vrijheidsstrijders. Ze willen niet afhankelijk zijn van artsen, maar baas zijn over hun eigen dood. Maar hulp bij zelfdoding is strafbaar. En terwijl experts in twijfel trekken hoe humaan dit middel is, begint een groep leden Middel X te verkopen. En zo staan begin dit jaar zeven zeventigplussers voor de rechter voor het runnen van een criminele organisatie.
