Trained nurses enhance asthma care

In the past, asthma care in the UK was mainly delivered by hospital doctors. Since the 1980's nurse training facilitated asthma care in general practice when it was provided mainly by nurses. Originally around 80% of these nurses caring for people with asthma had extensive asthma training. However due to reduced resources funding and time for nurses to train, plus increased demand for care for a number of long term illnesses, very few nurses currently delegated to care for people with asthma have had sufficient training. So it was indeed a pleasure to interview Bev Bostock who has specialised in a number of areas including asthma.
