June 13 I had the privilege of meeting my Co-Host Mr. Garth Kline at C103 studios because he had a new upcoming saxophone band “Irma and the Boyz’s “that wanted a chance to spread their Musical wings. When asked "Who was your inspiration? The answer came back (1) Charlie Parker and (2) John Coltrane. Working in the bebop & hard bop idioms early in his career, Coltrane helped pioneer the use of modes in jazz, was later at the forefront of free jazz.As his career progressed, Coltrane took on an increasingly spiritual dimension.Charles Parker, Jr. (1920 –1955), AKA "Yardbird" "Bird", American jazz saxophonist & composer.Parker was a highly influential jazz soloist and a leading figure in the development of bebop, a form of jazz characterized by fast tempos, virtuosic technique and improvisation. Parker introduced revolutionary harmonic ideas including rapid passing chords, new variants of altered chords, and chord substitutions. His tone ranged from clean and penetrating to sweet and somber. Parker acquired the nickname "Yardbird" early in his career; this and its shortened form, "Bird", which  inspired the titles of a number of Parker compositions, such as Yardbird Suite,Both Coltrane and Parker influenced innumerable musicians, such as Irma and the Boyzs.
