Transforming Professional Learning (TPL): a multidimensional initiative focused on developing a comprehensive system of professional learning that spans the distance from the statehouse to the classroom. Learning Forward, in partnership with CCSSO ( Council of Chief State School Officers), received funding for this initiative from three foundations: Bill and Melinda Gates, Sandler, and MetLife. The purpose of this initiative is to create a statewide comprehensive professional learning systemby aligning state policies and practices to support standards-based professional learning. Our guests today, Deborah Childs-Bowen, Vicki Duff, and Dale Hair, have been leaders in the initiative from the beginning and are excited to share the history, background, model, design, expansion and accomplishments….so far. Through collaboration, TPL has the potential to impact our entire nation. The focus in each state is to build comprehensive professional learning systems aligned with college and career ready standards and systems of educator effectiveness.
